Phonics: We are continuing to learn about blends and talking about words that begin with br-. The students are practicing identifying letter sounds in the beginning, middle, and end of a word (CVC words).
Reading: We are learning how to predict what will happen in a story, retelling the events, and inference using the details in the story with the book "Tops or Bottoms" by Janet Stevens. The students will also be looking at a non-fiction text and identifying the main idea and key details.
Writing: We are reviewing each genre of writing that we have learned this year: narrative, informational, how-to, and opinion. The students are currently working on narrative writing. We are working on including details in our story of where we were, what we did, who was there, and how we felt.
Science: The students are learning about plants- how they grow and their different parts. We are focusing on comparing what is the same and different about two plants.
Math: The students are reviewing how to add and subtract numbers up to a sum of 10. We are using different strategies to add and subtract numbers: my fingers, cubes, number line, ten frames, counters, and drawing a picture. The students are also reviewing addition and subtraction word problems. We are learning more this week on how to make 10 given a number. ( for example- if I have 2 then I need 8 to make 10)
