Sight Words: We are learning the words some, very, by, had, don't, old, went, them this week. (Please see the resource tab for a list of the sight words we will learn each week).
Phonics: We are beginning to learn about blends and talking about words that begin with sl-. The students are practicing identifying letter sounds in the beginning, middle, and end of a word.
Reading: We are learning how to create and use puppets in our reading. Students are creating puppets to show a character in a story and practicing giving them a "voice". We will then create a story with our puppets or use them to retell a story we already know.
Writing: We are continuing to learn about opinion writing and what that means. The students are practicing sharing their opinion and providing reasons for it through pictures and writing.
Social Studies: We are learning about some national symbols: Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, and the White House. The students are learning to identify these national symbols. We are also learning about Black History Month and some people who have made significant contributions to our world.
Math: The students are beginning to learn how to subtract numbers up to a sum of 5, sums up to 10 for an extra challenge.. We are learning different strategies to subtract numbers: my fingers, cubes, number line, ten frames, counters, and drawing a picture.
