Sight Words: We are learning new sight words each week. Please check your child's homework calendar to see their sight words for the week. (Please see the resource tab for a list of the sight words we will learn each week). Make sure you continue to review old sight words with your child as well.
Phonics: We are continuing to learn about blends and talking about words that begin with gl-. The students are practicing identifying letter sounds in the beginning, middle, and end of a word (CVC words).
Reading: We are learning how to compare and contrast character's experiences in familiar stories. The students are describing the characters traits of the boy and tree in the book "The Giving Tree" and showing them through dance. We are comparing and contrasting these character's traits through a venn diagram. Students will also be looking at the characters in "Hooray for Wodney Wat" and talking about their similarities and differences.
Writing: We are continuing to learn about opinion writing and what that means. The students are practicing sharing their opinion and providing reasons for it through pictures and writing complete sentences.
Social Studies: We are learning about rocks and soil; and how to describe and classify them into categories.
Math: The students are finishing learning how to add and subtract numbers up to a sum of 5, sums up to 10 for an extra challenge.. We are learning different strategies to add and subtract numbers: my fingers, cubes, number line, ten frames, counters, and drawing a picture.
