Sight Words: We are learning the words how, as, give, they, use, sleep, up, Saturday this week. (Please see the resource tab for a list of the sight words we will learn each week).
Phonics: We are continuing to learn about word families and talking about words in the -en family. The students are practicing matching and identifying rhyming words.
Reading: We are looking at the book "The Snowy Day" by Ezra Jack Keats. The students are practicing visualizing what the pictures in the book would look like and retelling the story from beginning to end. We are discussing connections that we can make to books (text to text, ourselves, or the world). The students will review character and setting, creating artwork to show each of these elements from the book.
Writing: We are beginning to learn about opinion writing and what that means. The students are practicing sharing their opinion and providing reasons for it through pictures and writing.
Social Studies: We are learning about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the impact he made to our country. The students are learning about the significance of MLK day and why we take time to remember the different Dr. King made.
Math: The students are beginning to learn how to add numbers up to a sum of 10. We are learning different strategies to add numbers together: my fingers, cubes, number line, ten frames, counters, and drawing a picture.
